Advancement of Literacy AwardPresented by the Public Library Association and Library Journal. Print this award application - PDF document Definition and CriteriaTHE ADVANCEMENT OF LITERACY AWARD committee members are responsible for nominating an award winner at the ALA Midwinter Meeting, January 24-29, 2003. That selection is given to the PLA Board of Directors at that meeting, where the name of the winner is announced. The award, a plaque, will be presented at the PLA President’s Reception during the ALA 2002 Annual Conference. All nominations must be presented in writing by December 2, 2002. Please use this form to nominate the publisher, bookseller and/or software dealer, foundation or similar group (that is, not an individual) you feel deserves national recognition. Criteria used for judging nominations include: (1) amount of support given to libraries for literacy projects; (2) evidence of long-term commitment to literacy; and (3) encouragement provided to other groups to undertake similar activity. 1, 2002, to: Advancement of Literacy Award PLA will forward the applications to the current chair of the Advancement of Literacy Award Jury. PLA reserves the right to extend the application deadline.
