IMLS FORUM-RECRUITING THE NEXT GENERATION OF LIBRARIANS

WHAT: An open forum with the library community.
WHEN: March 13, 2002, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
WHERE: Phoenix Museum of History, The Public Hall, 105 N. Fifth Street, (602) 253-2734 (1 block east of the Phoenix Civic Plaza)

Please join IMLS Director Dr. Robert Martin to exchange ideas on the development of a federal program to support the recruitment and training of the next generation of library professionals. RSVP TO: Elizabeth Lyons at IMLS, 202-606-4649 or elyons@imls.gov

On January 9, 2002, First Lady Laura Bush announced that the President's Budget request for FY 2003 would propose a $10 million initiative within the Institute of Museum and Library Services to recruit a new generation of librarians.

Over the next several months, IMLS will be calling on expert library and information science professionals to help craft a program that will build the foundation for recruiting the next generation of librarians. To be kept up-to-date on the status of this initiative, please subscribe to the IMLS newsletter, Primary Source, at http://www.imls.gov/utility/subscrbe.htm

The $10 million initiative to recruit new librarians proposed in the President's FY 2003 budget request to Congress expands this program and provides an opportunity to look at support for additional activities. Provided Congress approves this funding, the money will become available to IMLS sometime in the fall of 2002. You may also read a Web version of this advisory at: http://www.imls.gov/whatsnew/current/022102_1.htm)
