PLA Announces Training Resources for Managing for Results: Effective Resource Allocation for Public LibrariesHandouts from Denver, CO Workshop - PDF FileHow does your library or library system turn its plans and service priorities into realities? Start by arranging a presentation by a PLA Managing for Results Trainer. In January 2000, PLA released Managing for Results: Effective Resource Allocation for Public Libraries, the third in a series of PLA books dedicated to helping public librarians map out the futures of their libraries. Managing for Results is a comprehensive resource that provides library staff and managers with tools they need to gather information about current resource allocation and to make decisions about using resources to accomplish their desired results. Working librarians need training on how to effectively use the system in their libraries. In addition, state library consultants and system/regional library staff need to understand Managing for Results to assist and advise working librarians in the process. PLA has designed a training program to assist librarians in learning about and using the manual and its processes. In June 2000, 24 library professionals were trained in the delivery of this program and are now available to present at your library, library system or regional library cooperative meeting, or state conference. The training can be presented in a variety of formats and lengths to ensure it covers exactly what you need. While PLA officially recommends these trainers, PLA does not book or arrange sessions for them; trainers make scheduling and financial arrangements independently. If you are interested in inviting a trainer to speak at a meeting or in scheduling a training session, please contact a trainer directly. List of Managing for Results Trainers If you have difficulty identifying a trainer who can meet your needs, the PLA Office may be able to assist you; please send a detailed e-mail including all relevant information (dates, location, length, available funding or travel assistance, etc.) to lbostrom@ala.org. Any additional questions about the Managing for Results training program should be directed to Linda Bostrom, Education Director, PLA at 800-545-2433, ext 5027 or e-mailed to lbostrom@ala.org. |
