PLA Spring Symposium Tours and Events

Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio

Thursday, March 6
$40 per person
Tour departs the Palmer House at 1:45 p.m.
Returns at approximately 5:00 p.m.

Oak Park is home to some of the most famous architecture designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The Home and Studio Tour will take guests on a magnificent exhibition through Wright's Home and Studio complex. From 1889 to 1909 this complex served as Wright's architectural labaratory. It was here that Wright had his private residence, shared with his wife while raising their six children. Wright's studio is where he conceived the Prairie style of architecture. The home and studio have underone an intensive, meticulous, and massive resotration that has restored it to its 1909 appearance. Tour guides will provide a detailed synopsis of Wright's illustrious career and famous designs.

Newberry Library and Magnificent Mile Shopping

Thursday March 6 and Saturday March 8
$38 per person
Bus departs the Palmer House at 1:30 p.m.

The world renowned Newberry Library is an independent research library and educational institution dedicated to the expansion and dissemination of knowledge in the humanities. Home to a broad range of books and manuscripts relating to the civilizations of western Europe and the Americas, the library's mission is to collect, preserve, and promote their collection to a broad and diverse community. During this 45-minute tour the tour guide may discuss the history of the buidling, the different collections, the cataloguing system and much, much more.

Chicago . . . a shopper's Paradise! As many people know, Chicago has some of the finest shopping in the nation. With Water Tower Place, Atrium Mall, Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus, Marshall Fields, and all the specialty botiques along Michigan Avenue, guests showld be able to find a little something to mark their visit to Chicago. After the Newberry Library Tour, buses will drop off for two hours of shopping on the Magnificent Mile. Knowledgeable tour guides will provide assistance in all areas from directions on where to find an authentic Gucci watch to the best homemade ice cream in town! Following the shopping spree, buses will return to the Palmer House.

Maggiano's and Jazz Showcase

Friday, March 7
$98 per person
Bus departs the Palmer House at 6:30 p.m.
Returns approximately 11:30 p.m.

After enjoying a deluxe family style dinner (including non-alcoholic beverages) at Maggiano's, you will be escorted across the street to the World's second oldest Jazz club, Jazz Showcase. Featuring artists such as Barry Harris, Benny Green, and Russell Malone, Jazz Showcase is known around the country as one of the best jazz clubs.
