Become a Partner of Zoom Into Action
You are invited to become a partner of ZOOM Into Action, a community service
campaign from the PBS show ZOOM that offers kids and their families an empowering
way to respond to the anniversary of 9/11. As the anniversary of 9/11 approaches,
adults and children may experience recurring feelings of helplessness. What
better way for libraries to respond than to inspire families to volunteer
and make a positive impact in their local community?
As a partner, you will receive:
- 100 copies of ZOOM Into Action: Family Guide to Volunteering - a 16-page
guide to distribute to families that offers tips for starting meaningful
volunteering projects and books that make nice connections to service
and the spirit of helping others.
- 1 ZOOM Into Action brochure - this reproducible brochure for kids
includes ideas for starting projects and a form that kids can use to
share their volunteering activities with ZOOM, making them eligible
to appear on ZOOM's TV show and Web site.
- 40 ZOOM Into Action stickers - to inspire kids to volunteer.
- 10 ZOOM Into Action iron-on decals - to give special recognition for
great deeds.
- 1 ZOOM Into Action certificate - to duplicate and distribute to kid
volunteers
Using ZOOM's resources mentioned above, you can create a Volunteer Center
in your library during the months of September and October where families
can:
- Find books about volunteering and the spirit of helping others.
- Obtain a copy of the ZOOM Into Action: Family Guide to Volunteering
guide.
- Inspire one another by sharing volunteering stories on a bulletin
board.
- Share volunteering stories online at ZOOM's Web site (pbskids.org/zoom/action).
- Add their volunteer hours to a nationwide tally on ZOOM's Web site.
Supplies are limited. Requests will be honored on a first-come, first-served
basis. To receive your free kit, send an e-mail with your name, library's
name, e-mail and mailing address to zoom_intoaction@wgbh.org
More from ZOOM
ZOOM(tm) remembers September 11 - What can you do?
The producers of the PBS show ZOOM(tm) have created ZOOM: America's Kids
Remember, a special half-hour program that addresses the difficult memories
and renewed fears kids may feel around the anniversary of September 11.
The special moves beyond the tragic events and celebrates the spirit of
children and their power to improve their communities through volunteerism.
We need your help to spread the word!
ZOOM has created a tip sheet for parents, educators, and caregivers on
how to help kids cope with the anniversary. Please print it out, photocopy
it, and share it with others. Note: The three-page tip sheet is attached
as a PDF file (readable by Acrobat Reader) and can be found on ZOOM's
Web site (pbskids.org/zoom)
beginning August 28. Page one announces the TV special while the next
two pages suggest ways that adults can help children respond to the anniversary.
