INVITATION TO CAMPAIGN UPDATE, CRISIS COMMUNCIATIONS
TRAINING AT ALA MIDWINTER
January 9, 2002
Dear Colleague:
I am inviting you to two important sessions at the ALA Midwinter Meeting
that will bring you up to date on the "@ your library" campaign and provide
skills in crisis communications.
A Campaign for America's Libraries Update will be held Saturday, January
19, from 10 to 11 am in the Morial Convention Center, Room 355. The update
will include recent developments in the campaign: a new advocacy and mobilization
effort launching during National Library Week called "Rediscover America
@ your library," a new Put It in Writing program with Women's Day Magazine
and the grand slam partnership with Major League Baseball. The session
also will feature guest speakers from libraries participating in the campaign.
The LAN! Training Task Force would like to share samples of how libraries
are using the "@ your library" brand. Bookmarks, flyers, brochures, posters,
training programs, promotional items and marketing plans demonstrating
the brand usage will be available. If your library is involved in the
campaign and is interested in being showcased -- whether or not you plan
to attend the session -- please send samples to arrive by Friday, January
18 (75 sets minimum) to:

Libraries responded proactively to the September 11 tragedy by doing
what they do best - serving as community resource centers and providing
free access to information to people of all ages. However, many libraries
were plunged immediately into crisis. Crisis Communications Training:
After 911 @ your library will be held Sunday, January 20, from 1 to 2:30
pm in Rooms 356-357 of the Morial Convention Center. This session will
discuss "crisis communications" and how you respond effectively to crisis
situations. Get valuable tips and tools so that you are prepared ahead
of time.
These are open sessions; no advance registration is required. If you
have any questions about either of these two sessions, please the ALA
Public Information Office at 800-545-2433, ext. 2431/2148. I look forward
to seeing you there.
Sincerely,
