Public Libraries Magazine Announces New Columns, EditorsFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Beginning with the July/August issue, Public Libraries magazine (PL) will introduce Book Talk, a column that provides popular authors perspectives on libraries, books, information, and technology. Authors featured in upcoming issues will include Scott Russell Sanders, Orson Scott Card, Michael Gelb, and Lisa Scottoline. Selected authors will be interviewed by working librarians, or will provide essays to be included in the Public Libraries Magazine Announces New Columns, EditorsBook Talk column. Public Libraries has also begun publishing the Public Library Associations (PLA) Tech Notes as a new column. Tech Notes, conceived and produced by the PLA Technology committee, are written by GraceAnne A. DeCandido, and are initially published on the PLA Web site at www.pla.org, before they appear in the magazine. DeCandido spent ten years as a reference librarian, cataloger, administrator, preservation librarian, and tech maven in public and academic libraries in New York City. She has also served as editor for the Special Libraries Association, School Library Journal, Library Journal, and Wilson Library Bulletin, where she was editor in chief. She now writes, edits, does Web consulting, teaching, and speaking in her own company, Blue Roses Editorial and Web Consulting. Other new column editors include: Robert H. Rolhf has been named editor of the New Product News column in Public Libraries. He is a Managing Partner of Professional Library Consultants, P.A. and has served as a management, planning, and buildings consultant to more than 300 libraries. He was Director of the Hennepin County Library in Minnesota for 25 years and worked as Director of Administration at the Library of Congress prior to that. He has published over 50 articles in a half-dozen journals and is the author of the Public Libraries in the United States entry in the Encyclopedia Americana. Natalie Ziarnik has been appointed editor of PLs By the Book column. She has worked in libraries on and off since she was 16 and strongly believes in the mission of public libraries. She received her M.S. in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 1996, and currently works at Ela Area Public Library in Lake Zurich, Illinois, as the Elementary School Liaison/Youth Librarian. Her primary focus is to promote cooperation between schools and the public library. She was also a consultant at the Writers Workshop at the University of Illinois for five years and an Editorial intern at Cricket magazine. Dianne Boulerice Lyons was selected as editor of PLs Tales From the Front column. Lyons is the author of two books: Washington Handbook (first and second editions), published by Moon Publications; and Planning Your Career in Alternative Medicine (second edition to be published in August 2000), published by Avery Publishing Group. She has also written for such publications as Grit, Your Health, Coast to Coast, Family Motor Coaching, Camping and RV, Hartford Woman, and Northwest Parks and Wildlife. Lyons will receive her M.L.S. from Southern Connecticut State University in May, 2000.
