Renee Vaillancourt Named Feature Editor of Public Libraries

Renee Vaillancourt, Assistant Director, Missoula Public Library, Missoula,
Montana, has been named feature editor of Public Libraries magazine.
Vaillancourt, chosen by a search committee from a nation-wide pool of
candidates, assumes her post with the March/April 2000 issue of the magazine.
Public Libraries, published six times a year, is the official magazine
of the Public Library Association, a division of the American Library
Association.
Vaillancourt has the perfect combination of background, public
library experience, and impressive writing credentials to help make Public
Libraries even more important and relevant to public librarians,
said Harriet Henderson, PLA President. Vaillancourt comes to Public
Libraries with extensive writing, editing and publishing experience,
including having contributed to several professional publications, and
having written the latest edition of Bare Bones Young Adult Services
for the American Library Association.
In addition to her publishing experience, Vaillancourt has been active
in a number of professional groups, including the American Library Association,
the Public Library Association, the Young Adult Library Association, the
Montana Library Association, and more. Before coming to the Missoula Public
Library, Vaillancourt served as Young Adult Services Coordinator and Young
Adult Librarian at the Carmel Clay Public Library, Carmel, Indiana, as
Access Center Librarian (providing library service to people with disabilities)
at the Boston Public Library, and as Childrens Librarian at the Lincoln
Public Library, Lincoln, Rhode Island.
She received her M.S.L.S. from The Catholic University of America, and
her B.A. in Comparative LiteratureLiterary Translation, from Brown
University. Fluent in French, Italian, and American Sign Language, she
also attended the University of Florence (Italy) and Smith College in
Northampton, Massachusetts.
